Elate 8: Clare of Assisi v Barbara

Elate 8: Clare of Assisi

As the patron saint of television (when she was too ill to attend Mass she was reportedly able to see and hear it on the wall of her room in an early demonstration of ultra-short-throw projection) there are of course many ways to commemorate Clare.

Something like this giraffe would surely go down well with Clare’s mentor St Francis, or you could get bang up to date with the wireless transparent TV (no, we’ve got no idea either why you would want one.)

However, if you consider watching TV to be a waste of time (or if you can at least multitask and do something else while watching, and we don’t mean look at your phone) you may like this Cross Stitch Pattern, Clare also being the patron saint of needlework.

It reminds us a lot of the 8-bit computer game characters of our youth; we’re slightly concerned that it may not be appropriate to imagine St Clare eliminating hordes of alien invaders or dodging barrels thrown by a giant gorilla, but bearing in mind that legend has it that she single-handedly (well, with the help of God) repelled an army of convent invaders it suddenly seems more apposite.

Finally if, like us, you’ve been fretting over what happens to your discarded dominoes, you need fret no more.

The world’s stock of disused dominoes is being dealt with thanks to St Clare of Assisi and the handmade Recycled Domino Pendant Necklace.

Now that the world’s recycling problems have been solved you can drift off to a peaceful and self-righteous sleep under your St Clare Velveteen Plush Blanket, cuddling your St Clare Stuffed Doll.

Elate 8: Barbara

There’s a lot to learn about St Barbara (much of it involving explosions), and the best place in which to study her must be The Whale House in the town that’s named after her, Santa Barbara.  That’s in the USA.

Described as “A mesmerisingly unique fantasy-style haven” by someone who’s done a degree in Speaking Like An Estate Agent, it was designed by Michael Carmichael using two inspirations: took two forms of inspiration: Catalan architect and designer Antoni Gaudí, and the line, “…and then, the whale swallowed the entire ship!”

We could quote ad nauseum from this article, but the whole thing is such a quote-fest that your time would be better spent reading the original.

Your studies would no doubt be assisted by having some Saint Barbara Incense, and it would help you to fit right in with the Californians who love a bit of weird smelling smoke.  Allegedly.

“Enjoy these ancient aromas in your home and relax. The magic of nature will be with you at every moment.”  Couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
